If you're looking to get a new player started or introduce a young person to disc golf, it may be best to start at an easier course (distance, water hazards, trees, etc). Here's a specific list of courses that set up great for this:
Hall-Fletcher Elementary School
Jackson Park (green tees)
Flat Rock Middle School (red tees)
More info on each course can be found on our Courses page.
Each year, typically in the early Fall, the WNCDGA Board opens up submissions for the Youth Grant. The grant is award for anyone with a plan to grow the sport with a youth oriented focus. More information will be distributed via Facebook or you can e-mail the club to be notified.
In 2024 the grant was expanded and $2,000 was awarded. Recipients included Joe Hartles and the WNC Middle School Disc Golf League, Mack Tobias for Apple Valley Middles Schools and Ruby Middle School, Russell Thompson at North Windy Ridge Intermediate, and Grayson Morgan at Weaverville Elementary and Primary schools.
"The WNCDGA youth grant supported my attempts to promote the growth of youth disc golf. In 2024, I received a practice basket and was able to give 16 students at our local Middle School league a free starter set which kicked started a passion for disc golf in several of them. Thank you WNCDGA for being committed to youth disc golf and supporting folks trying to get more kids playing this great game." -Joe
"Your all's support of our club here has been crucial to deepening students' love for this sport and, for those that have never played before, helping to introduce them to this sport for the first time. We are going to install four baskets permanently on campus for kids to play." -Russell
In 2023 the grant was a total of $1,000 split between High School Disc Golf competition and assistance in an elementary school course.
